More than a zipline

Protecting our ngahere

As you journey on this New Zealand zipline through regenerating native forest, you're gliding through a living conservation project. Every ticket contributes to our ongoing efforts to protect native wildlife and restore this special corner of Aotearoa.

If you’d like to explore deeper into the forest, hop aboard our Railway Tour, which winds through regenerating native bush on New Zealand’s only mountain railway. Each ride supports our ongoing conservation and reforestation efforts.

Ziplining in All Weather (Almost!)

We run zipline tours in almost any weather, sun, cloud, or rain. In fact, ziplining in the rain offers a special experience! We even have high quality wet weather gear to keep you warm and dry.

We use an on-site weather station to monitor wind conditions and ensure your safety. If strong winds or storms occur, we may delay or cancel tours and will contact you to offer rescheduling or a full refund.

Meet Your Guides and Gear Up

Two of our trained zipline guides will welcome you and stay with you throughout the experience. They’ll help fit your safety harness and equipment, and you’ll use a Kauri Dieback station to clean your shoes and help protect our native kauri trees.

If you haven’t completed your risk disclosure form before arriving, you can do so on-site.

Railway Ride to the first zipline

Your adventure begins with a scenic ride on New Zealand’s only mountain railway through regenerating native forest.

Next, take on eight exhilarating ziplines through the forest canopy, one of the most unique New Zealand zipline experiences.

Before you launch, your guides will check your equipment and provide a safety briefing. One guide clips you onto each line, while the other ensures a smooth arrival at the next platform. Some platforms are in treetops, while others hug forested ridges, offering breathtaking views of the Coromandel.

Throughout the tour, your guides prioritise safety and share insights into the forest and our conservation efforts. Feeling adventurous? You can zip upside down or try a cannonball!

Finishing Your Zipline Experience

The last zipline brings you right back to the courtyard where your journey began. You’ll finish with a buzz of adrenaline, new memories, and maybe even a few new friends!

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the zipline tour take?

The full experience lasts approximately 2.5 to 3 hours, which includes a scenic ride on the Driving Creek railway, a safety briefing, gear fitting, forest walk, and the zipline adventure itself. Smaller tours of 1 - 4 people can take less time.

Do I need to book in advance?

Yes, pre-booking is highly recommended, especially during weekends, public holidays, and school breaks, as tours often fill up quickly.

Is there an age or weight limit for participants?

Participants must be at least 6 years old, and weigh less then 120 kg (265 lbs) to safely ride the ziplines. Children under 15 must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Is it safe?

Absolutely. Safety is our top priority. Our zipline system is built to international standards, we are a register adventure activity operator, and all guests are fitted with top-of-the-line safety gear and harnesses. Tours are led by professionally trained guides.

What should I wear?

Wear closed-toe shoes (no sandals or jandals) and comfortable clothing suitable for walking in the forest. We also recommend bringing a light jacket, as the weather can change quickly.

Is the tour suitable for people with a fear of heights?

While the ziplines are elevated, many guests with a fear of heights still enjoy the tour thanks to the reassuring support of our guides and the gradual build-up to higher platforms. You're never rushed, and safety is always maintained.

Can I bring a camera or phone on the tour?

Yes, but it must be securely attached to your body (e.g., with a wrist strap or chest mount). You may also add the Zipline Camera Kit to your order and will be given the camera for your tour.

Photos taken by our guides during your tour are complimentary and will be shared with guests at no additional cost. While our guides will do their best to capture great moments, photo quality may vary due to factors such as lighting and weather conditions. As such, we cannot guarantee the quality of all images.

Are there any toilets or facilities on the tour?

No, there are no toilet facilities available at the tour. However, there are facilities at baseyard when you arrive.

Are there group discounts or private tours?

Yes! We offer group discounts for larger parties and private tour options for special occasions, corporate events, or schools. Please contact us directly for more details and availability.

Where is the tour located and how do I get there?

Coromandel Zipline Tours is based at Driving Creek, just 5 minutes from the Coromandel Town centre. Free parking is available onsite, and it’s accessible by car or local transport.

📍 380 Driving Creek Road, Coromandel Town

What happens if it rains?

The tour operates in most weather conditions, including light rain. In fact, the forest takes on a magical feel in the mist! However, tours may be rescheduled or refunded if severe weather (like strong winds or lightning) makes it unsafe to continue. We also have enough quality rain jackets for all customers.

Is the tour wheelchair accessible?

Due to the terrain and physical requirements of the zipline platforms and forest walk, the tour is not fully accessible for wheelchairs.

Can spectators watch the tour without participating?

The zipline route goes through remote forest areas, so it’s not possible for spectators to follow along. However, they are welcome to explore the Driving Creek railway, pottery, and gallery while waiting for you to return.

Can I change or cancel my booking?

Yes, we understand that unexpected things can happen! We have a very flexible cancellation policy, so if something comes up that’s out of your control, please just get in touch.

What makes your zipline tour eco-friendly?

Our tour is built with minimal environmental impact, using raised platforms and non-invasive construction. We actively support native forest restoration, pest control, and conservation education through every tour, with proceeds helping fund ongoing efforts.

What if I arrive late for my tour?

We recommend arriving at least 15 minutes before your scheduled time. If you arrive late, we may not be able to accommodate you on the same tour, as we must start on time for safety and scheduling reasons. Please call ahead if you're running late.

Reconnecting with nature

Planting a philosophy

Driving Creek began as a working pottery. To move clay and firewood down from the hills, Barry Brickell built a narrow-gauge railway to be practical and low-impact.

At the time, the hills were mostly scrub. As he built the railway, Barry began replanting native trees to stabilise the slopes and restore the forest. Over time, this place became a haven for both nature and creativity.

“Everything railway, pottery, planting was part of the same ecology. I didn’t see them as separate. They all worked together.” - Barry Brickell, Rails Toward the Sky

That vision continues today. The railway still runs. The forest is thriving. And the pottery studio remains at the heart of Driving Creek, where people of all skill levels can shape, create, and connect with the land through clay.
