Frequently Asked Questions

What types of workshops are available?

Driving Creek offers a wide range of pottery workshops and courses to suit different skill levels and interests. Our workshops are taught by expert tutors and visiting artists, and take place in our professional studios surrounded by native forest, and include wheel throwing, hand building, sculptures, specialist techniques and masterclasses.

Whether you are new to pottery or looking to extend your skills, there is a workshop for you. All workshops are designed to be hands-on, with small group sizes and plenty of individual guidance.

How can I book a workshop?

Bookings can be made online through Driving Creek's booking system.

Are there age restrictions?

Our pottery workshops are designed for adults and older teens, typically age 16 and over, unless otherwise stated. Some workshops may be suitable for younger participants if accompanied by a participating adult, please contact us to discuss options.

We also occasionally offer family-friendly or youth-focused workshops, which will be clearly marked in the workshop description.

Can I take my creations home?

Yes. Most workshops include the glazing and firing of at least one or more of your finished pieces, which will be ready to collect or ship after the firing process is complete. You are also welcome to take any greenware (unfired pieces) you create during your workshop. There is an additional cost for items made in the Daily Pottery Class.

Full details of what is included are provided with each course listing.

Do I need prior experience to participate?

Driving Creek offers a wide range of pottery workshops to suit all experience levels. Many of our workshops are designed for complete beginners and provide step-by-step guidance in a supportive learning environment.

We also offer more specialised courses, including advanced throwing, production pottery, and masterclasses, which are best suited to those with existing skills or pottery experience.

Each workshop listing clearly states the recommended experience level. If you are unsure which workshop is right for you, we are always happy to advise, just get in touch.

What is the cancellation policy?

For courses and workshops:

  • A non-refundable deposit of 25% is required at booking.

  • Cancellations made more than 28 days before the start date will receive a full refund minus the deposit.

  • Cancellations within 28 days of the start date are non-refundable, except in exceptional circumstances.

  • If Driving Creek cancels the course, a full refund, including the deposit, will be provided.

For detailed terms, refer to their Terms & Conditions.

What should I bring or wear?

We recommend wearing comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting a little messy. An apron is provided, but pottery can still be hands-on with clay and glaze.

For some specialist workshops (such as firing courses), natural fibre clothing (cotton, linen, wool) may be required. This will be clearly stated in your workshop information.

You are welcome to bring your own pottery tools if you prefer, though all tools and materials are provided. Please also bring your own lunch, tea and coffee are provided in the studio.
